Smoking Should be Illegal in Australia

I strongly believe that smoking should be illegal in Australia and I’m confident you will be as well after you read my argument.


Firstly, smoking can take over your life, and it can become a habit that is extraordinarily tricky to get out of. As soon as you place a cigarette in your mouth, you are making one of the biggest mistakes you could ever make. I don’t think anyone should have to be put under so much pressure.

Secondly, if you take the unfortunate choice of smoking, you will sadly lose years of your life. There are horrible chemicals inside cigarettes that make them weapons against the human body. So if someone offers you a cigarette, reject their offer and say no, or you could come up with an excuse like ‘Oh, well I visited the doctors the other day and he said I have to make sure that I don’t smoke or drink any alcohol.’ You only have one chance at life, so why waste it?


Thirdly, everything about smoking is negative, and has no positives. There are so many dreadful illnesses that are caused from smoking, such as lung cancer, heart disease, rotten teeth, yellow fingers and heaps more deadly sicknesses. Never take the risk of putting a creature like that into your mouth.


Also, smoking doesn’t just have effect on you, but it has effect on everyone around you as well. Just say you go outside and have a quick smoke, you leave behind smokey air that others inhale. People definitely don’t have the right to have to put up with breathing in smokey air, when they have made the right choice of being a non-smoker.


Having cigarettes around your house is a danger if you have children, because your kids could find them lying around the house where you accidentally leave them. And guess what? If they were little kids, they wouldn’t know any better but to put them in their mouth. Having children is a big responsibility, and if you’re going to let them eat your cigarettes and become really sick, what’s the whole point of having children in the first place?


Lastly, people waste SO much money on cigarettes, they waste thousands of dollars a year. Just think of how useful those thousands could of been. You could of been saving up for a new car or even on your way to affording a new house, but instead smokers choose to waste that money on cigarette packs.


In conclusion, I believe that smoking should be illegal in Australia because people won’t be under so much pressure, they will live longer, they will have better health, they won’t have as much excuses to waste money, they’re kids won’t be in as much danger and the public won’t have to breath in smokey air. That’s why I believe smoking should be illegal in Australia.
